#1612Celebrating Reconciliation Day

The event will take place in December 16 which marks Day of Reconciliation on our calendar and makes it an official Public Holiday each year.

  • Every year since 1995, 16 December reminds us of our commitment to reconciling our country.
  • It involves the renewal of relations, forgiveness and making amends after disagreements.
  • By celebrating Reconciliation Day, individuals and communities can honor the values of compassion, equality. Using sports, arts, and culture to celebrate the 30th year of democracy is important for several reasons.
  • Running has the power to bring people together, foster a sense of unity and national pride, and
promote inclusivity and diversity, allowing individuals to share their experiences and perspectives.
  • Sports events can promote teamwork, healthy competition, and physical well-being, the talent and dedication of athletes.
  • Furthermore, using arts and culture to commemorate democracy can serve as a reminder of the values and inclusive experiences that resonate with people from all walks of life.

  • You do not need to bring or buy a timing chip. Your timing chip will be included in your race number, at no additional cost.
  • 15km x 4 Athletes Relay and 30km x 2 Athletes Relay

TOUCH AND GO

A Touch and Go method will be used at changeover points, the objective is to touch your team member as fast as possible splitting the distance into teams of either 4 x 15km or 2 x 30km,

NB: BOTH TIMES OF ATHLETES SHOULD MATCH AT THE TOUCH AND GO CHANGEOVER POINTS

  • Both the 15km x 4 and 30km x 2 results will be timed “Mat to Mat”.

42.2km Comrades Qualifier and 60km will be timed “Mat to Mat”

  • Your results on the FinishTime site will however include both your “Gun to Mat” time as well as your “Mat to Mat” time.
    • “Gun to Mat” time is the term used for the time from the sound of the gun starting the race to the moment you cross the mat at the finish line.
    • “Mat to Mat” time is the term used when timing is done electronically from the time you cross the timing mat at the start line to the moment you cross the mat at the finish line.
  • In order for “Mat to Mat” timing to be effective, all runners must cross the timing mat at the start, the halfway mark (approximately, marathon only) and the finish line. It is therefore important to ONLY start inside the demarcated start area.
  • The rules of ASA and AGN state that ONLY “Gun to Mat” timing can be used to determine the finish order for awards (in our case, prize money), to be given out to top finishers.
  • However, your “Mat to Mat” time will be allowed to be used as a qualifying time for the Comrades Marathon, as a kind concession by the Comrades Marathon Association.
  • The CITY 5.0km Family Fun Walk

The 5km Family Fun Walk race will not be timed.

  • The results, as well as other information, will be available on finishtime.co.za, after the event.
